Classification & Job Analysis
Classification and compensation is a core competency of our business. RSG consultants have worked in the public sector, private sector and not-for-profit organizations, providing our consultants with an in-depth understanding of the challenges managers face in job designs and the dynamics of their human resources management programs.
Job analysis is the systematic process of collecting and recording all pertinent information regarding a specific job. The grouping of positions into job families and class series emerges from the analysis of the job content collected during the job analysis process. RSG collects data directly from the employees and their supervisors through customized position description questionnaires and one-on-one or group meetings with employees. This data is then used in conjunction with existing job descriptions, job content data collected in the recruitment and selection processes, organization charts and meetings with management to codify in job descriptions the behavioral competencies and measurable tasks required to perform the assigned duties. |
There is no single right approach to the design of the classification plan, so RSG uses industry best practices and the organization's legal, management and staffing philosophies/ constraints to determine the best classification plan design for each client. The resulting classification structure will include a combination of broad classes and narrower, more specialized classes to assist the organization in development and deployment of staff resources and recruiting individuals with specialized expertise and educational requirements.
RSG will then codify the behavioral competencies, skills and observable tasks to measure those skills in job descriptions. |
